Hongcheon-based Sandol Foods (CEO: Ho-seong Lee), a local company, has officially entered the Thai market with its popular snack brand "33 Tteokbokki," targeting Southeast Asian tastes.
On the 20th, Sungbaek F&S, a subsidiary of Sandol Foods, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Banphe Interfood, a subsidiary of CP Group in Bangkok, Thailand. CP Group is Thailand's largest conglomerate, operating a massive distribution network, including over 14,000 7-Eleven convenience stores through its distribution affiliates.
This agreement will allow Sandol Foods' mega franchise brand, "33 Tteokbokki," to enter local 7-Eleven stores in Thailand. The first store will open in Bangkok on November 1st, with two more openings planned for December. To promote Korean food culture among Thai consumers, the company plans to sell items like hotteok (Korean pancakes) and bungeoppang (fish-shaped bread).
Sandol Foods, a member of the Gangwon Economic International Exchange Association (Ganggukhoe), celebrates its 20th anniversary this year with its "33 Tteokbokki" brand. Starting in Japan in 2017, it expanded to the US, Mongolia, and Indonesia last year, and has continued to gain popularity, with inquiries from Southeast Asian countries like Vietnam and Malaysia.
Lee Ho-seong, CEO of Sandol Foods, said, "We will strive to establish ourselves in Southeast Asian markets, including Thailand, by maximizing our appeal to local food culture and consumer preferences. Furthermore, we will contribute to the development of the tourism industry by promoting Korean snack culture in Southeast Asia."
